Identifying and Describing Transformations | Year 1 Pure | A Level Maths

Recognising transformations is a key visual skill that connects algebra to graphs across the whole A-level course. In this lesson you will learn how to identify the effect of y = af(x), y = f(x) + a, y = f(x + a) and y = f(ax) on a given graph, and describe transformations precisely using correct mathematical language. A clear understanding of these transformations supports work on trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic graphs as well as functions in Year 2.
