Normal Approximations to a Binomial Distribution (OCR A) | Year 2 Stats | A Level Maths

When n is large and p is close to 0.5, the binomial distribution can be approximated by a normal distribution. In this lesson you will learn that B(n, p) can be approximated by N(np, np(1 — p)), apply the continuity correction when transferring between discrete and continuous probabilities, and use the approximation to evaluate binomial probabilities efficiently. The lesson includes worked examples on hypothesis testing using the normal approximation.
