Hypothesis Tests for the Sampling Mean of a Normal Distribution | Year 2 Stats | A Level Maths
Hypothesis testing for the mean of a normal distribution is the second major hypothesis test at A-level. In this lesson you will learn that if X ~ N(mu, sigma^2) then the sample mean X-bar ~ N(mu, sigma^2 / n), and that a test for mu can be carried out using (X-bar — mu) / (sigma / sqrt(n)) which is N(0, 1). Hypotheses are stated in terms of the population mean mu, with conclusions interpreted in context.
