Length, Gradient and Midpoint of a Straight Line | Year 1 Pure | A Level Maths

Length, gradient and midpoint are the three building blocks of straight-line coordinate geometry and are needed for many later topics. In this lesson you will learn how to compute the gradient as a measure of steepness, the midpoint as the average of the endpoints, and the length using Pythagoras’ theorem in the form d^2 = (x1 — x2)^2 + (y1 — y2)^2. These tools are essential for problems involving perpendicular bisectors, triangle properties and circles.
