Recognising data types is the very first step in choosing the right statistical method, and this lesson sets out the standard categories used at A-level. In this lesson you will learn how to distinguish between qualitative and quantitative data, between discrete and continuous data, and how the choice of category affects which diagrams and summary statistics are appropriate. A clear understanding of data types feeds into every later topic, including sampling, presentation and modelling.
