Sigma notation is the compact way of writing sums and is needed across pure maths and statistics. In this lesson you will learn how to interpret and write sums in sigma notation, use the result that the sum from r = 1 to n of 1 equals n, and combine sigma notation with arithmetic and geometric series formulae to handle mixed sequence problems. The lesson includes modelling examples such as savings schemes that increase by a fixed amount or by a fixed percentage.
