Inductive Sequences | Year 2 Pure | A Level Maths

Inductive sequences are defined by a relation of the form x_(n+1) = f(x_n) and capture many situations not covered by closed-form formulae. In this lesson you will learn how to generate terms from a recurrence relation, identify whether a sequence is increasing, decreasing or periodic, and recognise key examples such as u_(n+1) = 1/u_n with a starting value defining a periodic sequence of order 2. The work links forward to numerical methods.
