Stealth Quadratics | Year 1 Pure | A Level Maths
Stealth quadratics are equations that are not obviously quadratic at first sight but can be transformed into a quadratic by an appropriate substitution. In this lesson you will learn how to spot equations involving powers of x, trigonometric functions, exponentials or logarithms that hide a quadratic structure, perform a substitution such as letting y equal e^x or sin x, solve the resulting quadratic, and recover the original variable. This versatile technique appears regularly in pure exam questions.
