Proof By Contradiction | Year 2 Pure | A Level Maths

Proof by contradiction is one of the most elegant techniques in mathematics and a required A-level method. In this lesson you will learn how to assume the negation of a statement, derive a contradiction, and conclude that the original statement must be true, including the standard proofs of the irrationality of sqrt(2) and the infinity of primes. The technique extends to unfamiliar proof problems and is rewarded heavily under AO2.
