Understanding when events are mutually exclusive or independent is crucial for handling probability questions correctly. In this lesson you will learn how to use the rule P(A union B) = P(A) + P(B) for mutually exclusive events, P(A intersect B) = P(A) P(B) for independent events, and P(B given A) = P(B) and P(A given B) = P(A) as alternative tests of independence. Venn diagrams and tree diagrams are used throughout, with set notation included.
