Horizontally Connected Particles | Year 1 Mech | A Level Maths

Two particles connected by a string and pulled along a horizontal surface are a classic Newton’s-second-law problem. In this lesson you will learn how to apply Newton’s second law and Newton’s third law to a system of horizontally connected particles, find the common acceleration by treating the system as a whole, and find the tension in the connecting string by considering one particle on its own. The technique extends directly to pulley problems.
