Ladder Problems (Not MEI or AQA) | Year 2 Mech | A Level Maths

Ladder problems are a classic application of moments and friction at A-level. In this lesson you will learn how to model a ladder leaning against a wall as a uniform rod, draw a clear free-body diagram showing weight, normal reactions and friction, apply equilibrium conditions for forces in two perpendicular directions and for moments about a chosen point, and find the angle at which the ladder is on the point of slipping. The lesson is not part of the MEI or AQA specifications.
