Expanding Expressions of the Form (a+bx)^n | Year 2 Pure | A Level Maths

Many exam questions present the general binomial expansion in the form (a + bx)^n where a is not 1, and a small algebraic preparation step is needed. In this lesson you will learn how to factorise out a^n to write the bracket as a^n (1 + (b/a) x)^n, apply the standard expansion, and identify the range of validity |bx/a| < 1. The technique extends naturally to expressions decomposed via partial fractions.
