Tangents and Normals to Curves | Year 1 Pure | A Level Maths

Tangents and normals are direct applications of differentiation and connect calculus to coordinate geometry. In this lesson you will learn how to use dy/dx to find the gradient at a specific point on a curve, write down the equation of the tangent there, and use the perpendicular gradient relationship m’ = -1/m to find the equation of the normal. The technique is regularly tested both on its own and within larger curve-sketching and area problems.
