Scatter diagrams and regression lines are the standard tools for exploring the relationship between two variables. In this lesson you will learn how to interpret scatter diagrams for bivariate data including recognising distinct sections of the population, use the terms explanatory (independent) and response (dependent) variable, distinguish between interpolation and extrapolation, and describe correlation as positive or negative, strong or weak, and understand that correlation does not imply causation.
