Tangents and Normals to Circles | Year 1 Pure | A Level Maths

Tangents and normals to circles are a regular feature of coordinate geometry questions and combine the equation of a circle with straight-line techniques. In this lesson you will learn how to use the property that the radius at a point on the circumference is perpendicular to the tangent at that point, find the equation of a tangent at a specified point, and apply circle theorems such as the angle in a semicircle and the perpendicular from the centre to a chord.
