My Tutoring Philosophy
I believe that all students have the potential to do well. It’s just about providing the opportunity and unlocking the potential. I find that the best way to unlock a student’s true potential is through a mixture of encouragement, a structured and methodical approach and hard work. Finding the right mixture of these three key ingredients is imperative when trying to help students achieve their full potential.
My Classroom Teaching Experience
I firmly believe that in order to be an effective tutor, experience in a classroom is imperative. From knowledge of how exam-board marking works to learning how to best cater for the individual needs of all types of student, classroom teaching is where all of these skills are learnt.
I qualified as a teacher in 2013 and since then my teaching experience has been teaching in Sixth Form colleges focussing almost exclusively on teaching A-Level Maths and A-Level Further Maths to students 16+ in age.
My Tutoring Experience
I have been privately tutoring for over 15 years and during this time I have developed a unique approach to tuition which ensures students progress, feel supported and are consistently challenged. I have tutored A-Level Maths and Further Maths across all of the main UK syllabuses (Edexcel, AQA, OCR A and OCR MEI) as well as the International A-Level Maths syllabuses (Pearson Edexcel iAL and Cambridge International iAL).
I have taught students from both the state sector and from the top independent schools in the UK including Eton College, Winchester College, Charterhouse, Benenden Girls School, among others.
My Qualifications
I am a fully-qualified teacher of mathematics holding a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK. My undergraduate degree is in Mathematics and Computer Science and I hold a Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics in which I achieved “distinction”.

- A Level Maths Tuition £GBP 125/hour
Tuition for all of the main UK A-Level Maths syllabuses (Edexcel, OCR A, OCR B MEI and AQA) and the iAL (International A Level) Maths, including Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International.
- A Level Further Maths Tuition £GBP 125/hour
Tuition for all of the main UK A-Level Further Maths syllabuses and the iAL (International A-Level) Further Maths.
- Mathematical University Entrance Exams Coaching £GBP 125/hour
Tuition for university entrance exams such as STEP, TMUA and MAT.
You may have noticed that my tuition rates are higher than those of many other tutors. These rates reflect my extensive experience teaching A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, both in the classroom and online, as well as my qualifications and—most importantly—the excellent results achieved by my students. This success is the result of a collaborative effort, combining my expertise with their hard work and dedication. Each lesson includes:
- One hour of personalised, one-to-one tuition, delivered by me, John Armstrong, the founder of ALevelMathsRevision.com and an experienced teacher of A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics with exam board marking expertise.
- Specialised guidance on exam techniques, including strategies to “target the marks” in exams, tailored to each topic.
- Bespoke resources for homework, designed to reinforce the learning process and consolidate new concepts effectively.
